A Great Deli in the Heart of Englishtown, NJ

Jesse and Janet Reitner were engaged in the food business for almost a half century. The Reitner’s started out in Bayonne, New Jersey with Reitner Meats and The Kitchen. In 1989, with brother David, they founded Jesse and David’s in Manalapan, New Jersey. After a successful 10-year, run they opened Lox Stock and Deli in Milltown, New Jersey in 1998 until they sold their interest in 2015.

Robert and Debbie Levine bring along their own history of successful establishments with Levine’s Deli in Staten Island, Kingsway Jewish Center in Brooklyn, and Fresh Meadows Jewish Center Catering Hall in Queens. Then, for close to 15 years, Robert Levine, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, had also been a driving force behind Classical Caterers, a highly respected and accomplished catering hall in North Brunswick, New Jersey.

Clearly, the food business is in our blood. We all wanted to get back into the business so the Reitner's and the Levine's teamed up and combined their experience and passion for food to bring you … The Pickled Herring.

The Pickled Herring is a brand new yet old-fashioned delicatessen and restaurant in Englishtown, New Jersey. We serve the traditional dishes that you remember from your childhood and incorporate the latest flavors of today. Our restaurant is a blend of those old-time favorites and new age recipes, all prepared to whet your appetite.

Our goal is to delight you with our traditional family recipes which you have come to know and love. Specialties include our own homemade knishes, pot pies, and salads — not to mention our mouthwatering Corned Beef, Pastrami, and Brisket. We also provide expert catering for all occasions.

We are well versed in all dietary needs and cater to all tastes. There is something for everyone in the family to enjoy. We look forward to a renewed and long-lasting relationship with our old and new clientele.

Our newly renovated facility is ready to serve you, your family, and friends our great culinary treats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We are already working to expand the dining area to accommodate parties private, special events, and additional dining.
